The Pro Bono Program will evaluate your case at your request, whether other lawyers have turned you down or not. If the Pro Bono Program cannot find an issue in your case that will allow them to represent you, they won’t appear on your behalf before the Court. But they will still try to give you specific information or suggestions about your case.
Starting in the spring of 2021, The Pro Bono Program also facilitates a ‘Rule 33 Pilot Program’ for pro se appeals at the Court. If you are still unrepresented at the Notice to File Brief stage, and wish to participate in this program, you can sign up by returning the Rule 33 forms. Then you will be automatically matched with a free attorney to argue the potential issues on appeal at the Rule 33 Conference that takes place. If you are at this stage of the Court’s process, you can reach out to the Pro Bono Program on their Helpline.
The Pro Bono Program also has a Helpline you can contact in if you remain unrepresented, but still want assistance with any of the Court’s processes and procedures. So even if the Program was unable to find merit in your case, you may still contact their Helpline for questions and discussion about the Court’s processes, as well as help with your brief and other filings.
