Employer fired me

Question:

Hey Jim I’ve been working for my employer for over 2 years now I told him I had a appointment 3days before hand and the day of he said he didn’t believe me and asked to see my ebenifits information I declined because I have personal medical information and he fired me is this legal? If not how do I go about the situation?

Jim's Reply:

Whether it's legal or not is sort of a moot point...you've been fired and now you have to decide what to do. I'd have to guess that your relationship with the employer may not have been great to start with? That's a pretty weak reason to terminate an employee who is a valued member of the team.

You'll want to explore whether or not you have any legal remedies open to you as you go about seeking unemployment compensation and a new job. You'll likely learn that most states are allowed to terminate an employee for any reason at all so long as they aren't violating EEOC rules.

If you feel that you've been discriminated against because of your VA rated disabling conditions, you'll want to seek legal help.
