Landlord/tenant Dispute

Question:

My landlord is using pretextual excuses to evict me from the premises. I pay the rent early each month. Her assertions are baseless. Her information comes from a neighbor. I do not know any neighbors as I keep to myself. I am a 100 per cent Disabled Veteran. My son, an Army Veteran, and his family stay with me while seeking adequate housing. The landlord's representative has been overly aggressive and confrontational. What are the laws regarding outright baseless harassment of tenants? Thank you.

Jim's Reply:

The laws governing landlord/tenant disputes vary widely depending on the state and particular community you live in. That you're a veteran with a disability probably isn't relevant unless you have some special needs and agreements associated with this rental. The landlord believes there is reason to evict you and once that happens the relationship is damaged and you probably won't ever be happy living there.

My rule of thumb is that once the landlord/tenant trust is broken it isn't likely to be recovered and it's usually easiest to move on to a better living circumstance. This isn't so much about right and wrong as it is about getting control of your life for the future. If you care to fight the eviction, you can seek legal help locally.
