Student Loan Forgiveness

Question:

Good afternoon, I read your post but I’m confused. I have a Federal student loan with Navient and I’m 100% services connected disability Total and permanent. I’ve already read in the web sites about forgiveness the federal student loan for veterans 100% services connected disability, but I read something about unemployment. My disability is 100% services connected Total and permanent but don’t say anything about unemployment and I’m still working in the postal offices. Can I get the forgiveness loan benefits? Thank you

Jim's Reply:

Yes, you are eligible for student loan forgiveness. It sounds as if you are rated as 100% disabled by the schedule and the rating is permanent. Don't worry about the unemployability benefit as that doesn't apply to you. More info is here https://statesidelegal.org/student-loan-discharge-or-forgiveness-and-military-service

  • PS from StatesideLegal:  Note that federal student loans are currently being placed in "administrative forbearance" as a result of the CARES Act and Covid 19. More information is available here.
