VA doctor malpractice
Question:
My husband had been experiencing periodic chest pain. A visit to the ER (where certain tests were taken) resulted in a referral to see his gastro - even though the notes clearly show that patient advises pain is not relieved by taking antacids. The dr even told him he had a healthy heart. He could not get an appointment with his gastro until 22 September. He had a VA disability for IBS and so tried to see a VA dr. The dr had in her possession records that show my husband had an unruptured aortic aneurysm, had been to ER with chest pain and that nothing was relieving pain. She did not run any tests or suggest a referral but asked if he was at the VA to merely avoid a $20 co pay. She wrote him a Rx for a higher dose of acid relievers. My 57 year old husband came home furious and was dead from a heart attack in less than 36 hours. I hold this dr and her lack of diagnostic skills responsible for his untimely death. The chief medical officer at her facility said in front of a witness I was justified in feeling angry, justified in making a complaint and justified in seeking legal counsel. Can you offer any advice?. Everyone I speak to says the case is too complicated because of the combination of private and VA Drs. This doesn't seem fair. There must be some accountability on this VA dr - I just don't know where to start....
