Traffic Tickets and Veterans
Question:
Jim, I just got ticketed by the police department for failure to obey a traffic control device. Do I have any kind of options when it comes down to legal help to dismiss/resolve this matter? Thanks for your time in advance.
Jim's Reply:
Options? You've got plenty. You're a civilian now...veterans are civilians you know. You have the rights that every American citizen enjoys. You can break the law, get a ticket, hire your own lawyer and pay that person out of your pocket and head to court to plea your case. Just because we're veterans doesn't give us any particular rights or privileges when we break the law. When we get caught, we can accept the penalty as just or not but we really shouldn't inappropriately depend on our veterans status since it has nothing to do with the discussion.
