Son is 8 years old and still no child support
Question:
Hi, Jim, I have a question. I was hoping you can point me in the right direction. My child support worker is suggesting I fill out an apportionment form because I haven't received any support from my son's father and I'm owed back child support as well, and she is saying it would be easier for me to get the support by trying to get an apportionment. I have the court order and our combined income papers that the court gave me, but how do I do this? Just fill out the VA form 21-0788 and give them a copy of all my court documents? My son's father will not comply. He never showed up for court ever and it was very hard to find him. My son is now 8 years old and I'm just trying to get him to pay his support. I appreciate any advice you have. Thank you for your time.
Jim's Reply:
You're asking for advice you've already heard. Yes, you must file the apportionment form to the VA at:
VA Claims Intake Center
PO BOX 4444
JANESVILLE, WI
53547- 4444
Once you've done that VA will find him and ask him to complete a financial statement and then they'll make their decision. Good luck.
