Owe back taxes to the IRS
Question:
Jim, Thanks for the great resource. I am 100% disabled for PTSD and Bi-Polar Disorder and in 2008-2011 I did not file taxes due to and directly related to my disability for which I was hospitalized for. It took a long time of treatment at the VA to finally get my head screwed on right. I owe a significant amount of taxes and penalties. I am willing to pay what I owe, but is there any help or assistance in filing to the IRS with some help from VA Legal or is there some resource out there to help me. Thanks again look forward to your reply.
Jim's Reply:
I don't know of anyone who will step up for you to help with income taxes. But to be honest, I'm not sure you need any help. It sounds as if you recognize that you owe some taxes and that you're willing to pay what you owe. In that case, your best bet may be to call the IRS and lay it on the line to them. As unbelievable as it may sound, they usually are very helpful and will work with you to design a repayment plan that you can manage. Give that a try, let us know how it goes.
