My parents divorced after being married 40 yrs. after dads death. Mom receives his retirement and social security monthly . Would she be eligible to receive his VA benefits to be used for assisted living .

Probably not. Divorce often severs many veterans benefits from the former dependent. The only way to know for sure is to apply.
