If you believe that your condition is service connected, you must file a claim for that. Nothing can or will happen until you formally file a claim. The rest will be handled by the VA...you'll get a physical exam and so on and then a rater will make what VA determines is the appropriate ratings decision. If you don't agree with the decision, you have the right to appeal.
