GI Bill defaulted on federal loan
Question:
My husband served 4 years in the Marines, 6 months he was deployed and he got a Purple Heart. Is there any help for Veterans that defaulted a federal loan that “should’ve” been paid by the Montgomery G.I. Bill? And why do they expire? Some people didn’t know their entitlements and options without the right guidance . He doesn’t think he deserves anything .. I’ve known him for 5 years and I know nothing about his time there. Please advise. thank you.

Without further details I can't provide much of an answer. I'd suggest that he talk with a veterans law attorney who may be able to help him understand just what's going on. Veterans law attorneys are usually very generous with their time and don't charge for an evaluation of a case. You can find the attorney for you here.
- PS from StatesideLegal: The National Consumer Law Center operates a Student Loan Borrower Assistance Project with lots of information about these issues, including special resources for those in the military. The federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau also reviews complaints and has some resources specific to GI Bill student loans here.
