Question:

Dear Jim,
I was recently awarded TDIU permanent rating. On the award letter it also stated something about awarding dependent education. There wasn’t a ton of elaborate information on what changes there may be to my benefits (I.e. what is the education award referred to in the award letter). I was awarded an 80% rating before I filed for IU. Obviously I understand that there’s an increase in monthly compensation but is there any other benefit difference I should know about?

In 2005,  an undersecretary of benefits at VA gave a talk to Congress to explain the TDIU benefit. Although a lot of time has passed, not much has changed with the TDIU benefit. I think his speech is the best description of TDIU I've ever read and I reprinted it on my web site here
