When we veterans have civilian legal problems, we are best served by diving into the civilian legal help arena. You can contact local personal injury lawyers and be very up front and ask directly if they'll offer you a discount for services or perhaps serve you on a contingency fee basis. If I were you I'd talk to a small handful of local lawyers to find someone who you trust and feel will do a good job for you.

They maintain a list of attorneys by specialty who will meet with you for a consultation for a low fee.  Many personal injury lawyers do take cases on a contingency basis, which means that you don't pay them up front but they get a percentage of the settlement if you win.
