IHD Claim

Jim,
In Oct 2010, I filed a claim for IHD due to AO exposure. I had to have an AICD implanted in March of 2010. As per your directions, I sent it Certified Return Receipt and have the green card signed 2 days after mailing.
I have still not heard word one from the RO as to receiving the claim. I provided with it the results of the Electrocardio gram, my prove of boots since I received a Purple Heart from being wounded at DaNang. I also provided documentation of the AICD implantation and results.

If they need more, I can get full medical history including my electroshock conversion by the paramedics in the ambulance. I had had an irregular heart beat for several years, and there is some scaring but unknown permanent damage.
Should I wait some more. I have heard that the LA Office sends all their IHD claims to San DIego, but my file is being processed by Jackson MS because of exposure to Radiation resulting in some cancer.
Still read your column and appreciate all the help you provide to everyone. My salute to you as a Vet's Vet.

Thank you for the kind words sir.
Your claim is very new...early in the process. I wouldn't be too concerned yet.
I recommend that you wait until 6 months have passed and then begin to follow up. The follow up should be in the form of a simple one page letter, via certified mail, stating that you have submitted the claim and would like to know its status.
Please reply to this email when you do that so that I can help you keep track of this.
The system, as usual, is greatly overwhelmed with the huge number of claims and although VA continues to tout how well they're doing, they fall ever more behind each day.
That you have your receipt is a good sign that your claim is in process. Now we wait.
