VA disability does not impact SSDI
Jim,
My husband is an 80% disabled Viet Nam vet who recently had a comp and pen exam for 100% Unemployability and receives a Social Security Disability check of $739 after Medicare deduction. At the C & P exam, the VA doctor told him that his VA disability check would be reduced by the amount he receives from Social Security. Is this true? He put in his original claim in November 2009. Thank you.

No, not true. Veterans who are eligible may collect SSDI and VA disability compensation simultaneously with no offset. Every few years a politician will rise up to suggest that the Congress should change the rules so that veterans may only collect one of those benefits and each time they are quickly hushed.
