How VA rates heart condition
Jim,
Thanks for reading my e-mail. I am receiving comp for type 2 diabetes currently. I submitted a claim for Ischemic heart disease last Feb. (2010)
I have two heart attacks and two 4X CABG. All in the late 90’s………I have sent all of my Dr. reports and surgery notes….What do you think my outcome will be at the rating decision…………. I also was called to the Miami VA and Fort Lauderdale clinic for x-rays and sonograms. (4th Inf. Div.)

The outcome will depend on how severe the IHD condition is. The 2 measurements are ejection fraction (EF) and/or mets (Metabolic Equivalents). Each of those is a standard number that indicates how well your heart functions compared to where it should be.
Many people who have multiple procedures actually have good heart function so they get ratings of 10% or 40%. Others who have congestive heart failure may get a 100% rating.
If you had a sonogram, I'll guess you mean an echocardiogram. They were checking your EF. The rater will likely use that number to rate you. Without knowing more of the details I can't hazard any guess as to the rating outcome. If you don't agree with it when it comes, you should appeal.
