Question:
What do I need to do in child support court if I put my ex wife on child support and she opted out of paying what the amount the state required?
Jim's Reply:
The family court issues orders that the court expects we will follow.
Some of these orders are very specific and are called stipulations or "stips". The amount and timing of a child support payment is one of the most frequent of the stipulations and probably the most often violated order from the court. When the obligor (the person who is obligated to pay) fails to deliver the correct amount at the correct time to the obligee (the person receiving the payment), the obligee may seek help from the state where the child resides. Different states take different approaches to enforcement but every state has some government body tasked with going after child support payments. You can start by talking with the clerk of court at the family court where the divorce was recorded and take it from there.
