Question:
Jim, I utilized a VRO in my state to assist with my initial filing for VA disability benefits. My sister is also in the process of applying. A co worker told my sister that an individual at the VRO will make sure her claim gets filed if she pays him $200 to $300. She provided a name and was told to just ask for this person. Prior to my sister telling me this, I met this individual at the VRO when I was working on my own claim, and he gave me an uneasy feeling. What can I do to report this individual? Is there an IG that services this organization? I'm disgusted that someone is taking advantage of veterans this way.
Jim's Reply:
It's not legal to seek compensation for helping a veteran file a disability benefits claim. You can report the activity to the VA Office of General Counsel here
