Question:
Jim, I need your help for a little girl...8 years olds with Autism and dyslexia, she needs legal representation against a school, child of a wounded veteran. Can you please help me -- school district is bullying me and discriminating denying FAPE!
Jim's Reply:
Children of veterans aren't entitled to any particular benefits other than what any civilian child might be afforded. If you believe that there are FAPE violations you'll need to talk with an attorney in your specific district to help you. Good luck.
- PS from StatesideLegal: You can also check with the nonprofit agency in your state that has been designed to handle protection and advocacy issues, including advocacy for children with disabilities and the public school system. Depending on your child's situation, they may be able to advocate on your behalf with the school at no charge. The national listing is here.
