Question:
My aunt and uncle have been fighting an IRS person for many years now.He is a veteran and cannot work due to treatment he received at the VA hospital in Oklahoma city. He has trouble even walking now and was actually sent home to die from the surgery, but he has fought on. Now the IRS is coming out to take record of their home and belongings to take. Is there any help for them?
Jim's Reply:
If your relatives owe the IRS money and the IRS is seizing property, they need a lawyer. If they can't afford a lawyer they need to seek help in their region from whatever legal aid group may be available. The status as a veteran and all the things you say about how he's been treated really don't come into the picture when legal action is being taken. Only an attorney will be able to help.
- PS from StatesideLegal: There are free low-income taxpayer clinics to handle individuals in disputes with the IRS that may be able to help your relatives. The current map with contact information is available here.
