On a VA pain contract

Question:

I'm on a pain contract at the VA.  I take Oxycodone and Methadone. I took a urine test the other day and my doctor said i was positive for benzodiazepines.  He said the VA would cut me off completely.  Can I ever get my pain meds back?

Jim's Reply:

Probably not. A contract is an obligation that has a penalty if it's broken. That's as true with pain contracts as home mortgages. If you default, it won't go well for you.

But I think you're looking at a bigger problem and maybe you aren't seeing the forest because of the trees in the way? If you take oxycodone and methadone and you're accused of abusing benzos...which you don't deny...you may want to consider that you need to ask your doctor for a ticket to rehab.

There is help for you to break the opioid addiction cycle, but only if you ask for it.
