VA disability benefit and alimony

Question:

I'm a retired Vet with 100% disability, I got married in 2014. How much of my pay is subject to alimony payment?

Jim's Reply:

All of your disability pay is subject to use for alimony and child support obligations. Disability payments are meant to replace income you would be earning by working to support your family were you not disabled. If you were earning that income by working and divorced, that money would be used to calculate your obligations, if any. When you go to divorce court the disability income will be seen as income and used in calculations. No matter the rumors you may hear, VA disability money is not protected in the divorce court.
