Question:
I filed an unemployment claim with the state of AL due to being laid off (COVID-19). It is going on 5 weeks with no income and the claim is being held up because of UCX Provisions. I have a wife and two babies. We need the benefits but have to wait. My question is, do you know what they are waiting for when it comes to UCX Provisions. I am a former Marine and have a Honorable Discharged.
Jim's Reply:
I'm sorry, the best I can do is take a guess. I'm in Florida and I believe we lead the nation in the backlog of unemployment claims. I'm hearing applicants who have spent days trying to get through on a phone or to submit a form on the Internet just to have the system crash and they must start all over.
The most common reason for this is that most states are operating with seriously aged computer systems and software and the massive number of claims shut down many states benefits offices. Like a lot of infrastructure, states have failed to keep systems modern because of budgetary issues...always debatable.
I don't specifically know how any of this might affect UCX Provisions but I can take a guess that there's a software glitch that has your claim tied up.
