Temporary disability not pro-rated back to date of surgery

Question:

Hi Jim I just recently had Total Knee Replacement Surgery on my left knee on 12/5/2018 that was service connected at 20%. My temporary disability kicked in, but the date they started it was January 1, 2019 and will continue to 1/1/2020 then it will drop down to 30% as of 2/1/2020. My question is why do they not prorate the temporary disability back to my surgery date of 12/5/2018? Also I read that I can get the temporary disability for 13 months. I feel like I missing a month plus the 26 days from December 2018 on what they awarded me.

Jim's Reply:

I can't answer why they seem to have cheated you out of some time. The only way to get an answer is to appeal each point you make by filing a NOD. If you file a Notice of Disagreement, you'll get a response sooner or later.
