Question:
I received a letter recently from the VA saying that they changed how they check your employment income. They now refer to Social Security. I understand VA retirement is not a factor in determining unemployability benefits. Does this apply to all retirements? I'm retired from Cal Pers and even though I don't pay into Social Security, I still make above poverty. I haven't worked in 7 years.
Jim's Reply:
VA only counts income earned by gainful employment for the TDIU benefit. Your retirement benefits won't have any bearing on your TDIU benefit.
