Question:
Hi, Jim. Checking EBenefits I’ve found they have decided to award me 100% for PTSD. With that being said, I am told that the VA automatically provides TDIU - something I don’t want because my family already struggles with my higher income. Is this true? Does the VA always provide TDIU (IU) or, is that something that needs to be applied for? Am I able to deny the TDIU if my decision letter (which they are not sending out until Monday) says I have it? Thanks.
Jim's Reply:
No, VA doesn't always provide the TDIU benefit in any given circumstance. However, I haven't any clue why you would want to turn down the TDIU benefit?
Yes, you can turn down a VA benefit and some (very few) do. But if you were to be awarded the TDIU benefit and you were to notify VA you didn't want it...I imagine you'd lose the entire disability benefit so why apply in the first place?
