Question:
I am 100% service connected disabled (PTSD) with the VA, presently I receive SSI for $1200 a month. Could I go to the Social Security Disable Insurance program and get the $2650 that I see quoted all the time for disabled veterans? If so how would I go about it? Thank you for your help
Jim's Reply:
I'm not sure which $2,650 you're seeing quoted all the time? When veterans apply for retirement or disability benefits, Social Security checks their records. If they have qualifying military service, they get credit for additional wages for their military service. These credits are added to the veteran's lifetime earnings record — not to the veteran's monthly benefit check. You can read more here
