Question:
I have had radiation treatment for my prostate cancer due to exposure to agent orange. My six months after treatment is just about done. I understand that I will be getting a reduction in benefits but I am not scheduled for bloodwork until August, so how does this affect me? Also I am still getting up to to three times a night and about every 2 1/2 hours during the day. Will I still be able to receive some benefits? thank you.
Jim's Reply:
Active prostate cancer that is service connected is rated at 100% disabling. After treatment and when you no longer have a cancer, you can't receive the rating for cancer. You'll receive a rating that reflects the conditions left after treatment. Usually frequency and urgency to urinate and ED are the hallmark symptoms after prostate cancer treatment. You should receive a benefit of 20%, 40% or 60 % depending on how many absorbent pads you use each day.
