Vietnam Era

Question:

Hi Jim I have a question regarding my status as being considered Vietnam Era Veteran. I have in my records a DD Form 4 signed on April 23, 1975 into USNR-R, and I was sworn in that date. Then on May 9, 1975 I signed another contract and entered active duty until Feb 15 1979. Am I considered Vietnam Era Veteran? I know the definitions state active duty after May 7, 1975, but does my short tenure from April 23 qualify to say I am Vietnam Era? Thanks for your time and all you do for veterans.

Jim's Reply:

For VA purposes, in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations Chapter 38 Paragraph 3.2 (f), the Vietnam Era is "The period beginning on February 28, 1961, and ending on May 7, 1975, inclusive, in the case of a veteran who served in the Republic of Vietnam during that period. Details are here
