My father died at a VA hospital due to an omitted standard test on his lungs. His lungs collapsed and he died struggling to breathe. I have filed a tort claim, but how do I know where our family stands at this point?

If you retained an attorney, that's who will be able to inform you of the status of your tort. If you don't have an attorney who is expert and experienced with VA and tort claims, I'm afraid I don't have anything to offer you. I don't know of anyone who has succeeded navigating the tort system alone and without an attorney. VA has hundreds of experienced lawyers working against you...you aren't at all likely to win without your own attorney.
