Military spouse living in bad housing

Question:

I am a military spouse with low resources for money. I have an issue with apartments I rent. My apartment is covered in mold. I want out of my lease and items paid for that have been ruined. I have complained for months and I do chemo so they are aware I can’t get sick.

Jim's Reply:

Breaking a lease can be a poor move if you aren't adequately prepared with documentation and so on. I'd suggest that you search locally to find a legal aid venue where you can get some advice and help.

  • PS from StatesideLegal:  Use the "Find Legal Help" directory to look for LSC providers in your area -- they may have information about unsafe housing on their websites which can help even if you don't qualify financially for free legal aid.  If needed, use the directory to find a LRS provider who can refer you to a local attorney for a low-cost consultation on next steps.
