Question:
I divorced in 1999 as an E5 with 10 yrs of service. My decree states that I was eligible for retirement and she would be entitled to 33.3% based on my rank at that time. She tried to have the order enforced and it was rejected in 2012 when I retired as an E9. Her attorney is saying I owe her 80K since I hadn't paid her since retiring in 2012. My calculations say's I owe her approximately $300 a month for 7 years. What should I do?
Jim's Reply:
You should have a lawyer in your corner. It sounds as if your ex is one up on you in that department and you have some catching up to do. She has a tough attorney, you need a tougher one or you may pay the price.
