Question:
Dear Jim, I don’t know if there anything that can be done at this point, but I needed to ask a question. I will make this short, because I have been told that with this issue that nothing can be done. I have been divorced for seven years, and the man I was married to is retired military. We had been married 20 years, but after the divorce DFAS said that marriage entitlements were not accessible to me because the spouse had not put that in writing in the divorce document.
Is this true? Before the divorce, we were both in GA, but then there was so much mental abuse that I left to go to a military shelter in Florida. When the divorce papers were delivered to me in Florida, I could not get back to GA obtain a lawyer. I didn’t have any money to go back to Georgia, so I am just asking the question. Thank you for your time.
Jim's Reply:
You'll have to run this by a divorce lawyer to get a proper answer. Good luck.
