Vietnam vet just had stroke

Question:

My husband is a Vietnam Vet. He just had a stroke which affected his whole left side. His right carotid artery is 100% blocked. He has not applied for any benefits under the VA before this point. Medicare is running out. Does he qualify for any benefits? And how do I apply? What can I do? I / he needs help.

Jim's Reply:

can't tell you if there are any benefits he may be eligible for or not. The blocked artery isn't in and of itself a service connected condition but depending on other diseases he may have, it could well be service connected. Medicare doesn't "run out" so I'm not sure what that's about? In any case, filing a disability claim isn't difficult although there will be a wait. Click here to get started
