landlord tenant dispute over damages

Question:

Hi Jim, i had a legal question about a landlord/ tenant issue. My privious landlord is threatening to take me to court over a "large" amount of damages that she claims I caused while living on her property. I took 51 pictures the Day we moved out that have dates and Times when taken and also counteracts her claims. She gave me five days to respond after I wrote her my dispute letter to the damages I didn't agree with beacuse of my proof. She then sent me pictures that she so called took that same Day after we left. She was present for the walk through. And was present until we left. How do I respond?

Jim's Reply:

I'm not able to answer your question. You're engaged in a landlord/tenant dispute that sounds as if it could cost you some money if you don't properly defend yourself. To do that effectively will require the services of an attorney or legal aid advocate who knows your local laws, rules and regs. Your status as a veteran won't carry much weight in a civil issue like this so you should think about whether or not you want to fight this or pay up and write it off as a bad experience.
