This detailed 600 page Veterans and Servicemembers Survival Guide was originally developed by Veterans for America and is now made available free of charge by the National Veterans Legal Services Program on their website. It was published in 2009 so more recent changes will not be included.
 

The Guide provides detailed information about all the VA benefit programs, including:

• service connected compensation;
   
• need-based pension;
   
• VA overpayments;
   
• education assistance and vocational rehabilitation;
   
• VA housing;
   
• VA medical care;
   
• VA programs for family members and survivors;
   
• employment, self-employment and small business
  
   

It also covers laws and benefits specific to service members, including:

• USERRA protections,
   
• correcting discharge conditions or military records;
   
• early discharge or separation;
   
• SCRA protections;
   
• voting rights;
   
• family law;
   
• sexual assault/rape in the military;
   
• immigration.
  
   

The guide also addresses the Uniform Code of Military Justice and veterans in the civilian criminal justice system.
