Does change in address cause VA benefits review?

Jim,

I have to move because i can't afford my house any longer. will this generate a review of my claim? I'm 70/100 for 14 years permanent & total. don't need any harassment at my age. thank you.

No. I've moved a number of times w/o any issues. I've bought and sold a couple of properties and the VBA doesn't pay any attention.

As a rule, I recommend that you do not switch banks. Leave the VA deposit just as it is. I left a bank account open just for VA for about 10 years once and never had any problems. It really doesn't matter where you live any more, a bank is a bank.

If you are leaving your region, you need to go to the new region VA health care facility. Tell them you moved and so on. They will have to work you in to their system, get a new doctor for you and so on. Do all that registration stuff before you need to see a doctor. Then, if you need a doctor, the visit will be easier.

Be sure to leave a forwarding address at your local post office. That will last a year and anything from VA that happens to arrive will be forwarded to you.

Once you are settled and feel the move and new address is permanent, notify the VA regional office in writing that you moved.

Interestingly, notifying the new health care facility will not necessarily notify the regional office of your move. That's a good example of how poor the communications are at VA. The left hand rarely knows that there is a right hand.
