National Guard member needs divorce

Question:

I need help filing for a divorce. I am active guard.

Jim's Reply:

You'll need to file for divorce in a civilian court and you can either do it yourself or retain a divorce lawyer to help you. There aren't any free representatives for divorcing veterans or civilians either. Divorce is a uniquely civilian problem with only civilian solutions and your status as a vet or active duty really doesn't come into play.  This is one of the reasons we're told that if the military had wanted us to have a spouse they'd have issued us one. Divorce isn't a veterans problem and there is no free help I'm aware of...you're pretty much on your own. You can contact the clerk of court in your region and ask if you can file for yourself, otherwise you need to retain a lawyer.
