Medicare Part A and VA Health

Question

I am an atomic Vet 100% disabled due to ionizing radiation I was exposed to at the Nevada Test Site in 1953. I am receiving health care from the VA. I made aware, recently. that I am being charged $109.00 per month by Social Security for Medicare. Is this right and if not, how can I correct it?

Jim's Reply

Once you begin to draw your Social Security retirement pay, Medicare Part A is mandatory. Even those of us who have VA or other health care insurance are required to pay the fee. Medicare Part B, Part D and other Medicare supplemental insurance is optional.
