Marine's fiancé is permanent resident

Question:

My fiancé is in the Marines, and he’s been wanting to get married for a while now but I am still in school and he’s been getting sent overseas quite a bit so I don’t know how that would work out for me because I am a permanent resident (green card) and have been for about 3 years. So I have 2 more years left until I can apply for my citizenship;  I also want to marry him,  but I’m scared it might push back when I can take my test after reading about it.

My question is: If we were to get married, would that affect how long I’d have to wait? Would I have to wait longer since I’m marrying him and we have to be married and be living together for 3 years for me to become a citizen or does that not apply since I’ve been doing this process aside from our relationship?

Your very best option is to find and talk with someone who has immigration law expertise. You need an attorney who is up to the minute with all the details of what's happening with our immigration laws at this time of rapid change in America. I'd fear that, without expert guidance, you could make mistakes that could impact you and your fiance for a long time. Use the "Find Legal Help" resources you'll find here at Stateside Legal and get expert help.
