Question:
I am a member of the Canyon Country board of guardian; I am a fiduciary for one person who we have under the Guardians. I have another person I am watching over that is a veteran. He currently has a fiduciary but I would like to be his fiduciary because his current one will not have any connections with me who is following him as his guardian. The VA rep for fiduciary went to visit the veteran; when I asked him about his visit with him, he actually lied and said he didn't visit him, when I know he did because his caregiver called and told me. I want to be fiduciary because I manage his finances. However, this VA rep is going to give the fiduciary to someone else because he says my credit score is too low. My credit score is over 700. I just got fiduciary over one other one a few months back. The rep said 'things have changed', well what changed?
Jim's Reply:
Your status as a guardian has no real effect at the federal agency that is the VA when it comes to fidu appointments. When they appoint a fidu, it's only to keep control over the veterans VA disability money and little or nothing else. If they told you no, you can try and appeal but they don't often budge.
