DD 214 notation

Question:

I recently took a look at my DD 214. I haven't taken a look at it for a very long time.  Where I was suppose to sign it, it read "member not available".  Where was I?!   My question is, is this a valid document?

Jim's Reply:

Yes, it's valid. The notation that you weren't available for whatever the reason doesn't in and of itself negate the document, in fact...it affirms that the information is correct even though you weren't physically there to sign. Where were you? Nobody will ever know but in the days of mass processing of draftees and/or others in and out of the service, you could have been in the room next door and this was done to process you out more quickly.
