Child protective proceedings

Question:

Hi Jim,  I'm in California. I could use some help finding a family law  attorney that will stand up for us , as well as my brother and nephews since we don't know how. I've had 4 Department of Child and Family Services prior cases which left my children traumatized due to how the foster systems mistreated them ... Now my brother has a open case for his children.  His appointed attorney doesn't help him in any way although they don't  have any actual current allegations against him so they are trying to use a DUI from back in 2005 for which he completed all requirements asked by  the judge in order to have a valid driver's license. It's a sensitive matter;  could you please point me in the right direction please?  and  thank you.

Jim's Reply:

Choosing a family law attorney is pretty much like any other decision...you'll have to determine just what it is you need and then start calling locally to find the right lawyer for you. There aren't any free rides in most family court situations so you'll need to be prepared to pay the price of the services you're seeking. Although expert representation may seem expensive, it can save you a lot in the future.
